Good Dog Luna

“DemsForDogs is a story of what democrats do. They show up for each other, for the community, and causes that matter.”

Nichole Geibel

DemsForDogs was created by animal lover and Democrat, Cori Cook. While volunteering for a state campaign, she was greeted by a friendly dachshund, Luna, when inspiration hit. Familiar with the candidates running in her area and their priorities with civic engagement and forward thinking policies; DemsForDogs was an avenue to bring pawsitive results for shelter animals by leaders in the forefront of communities. After a brainstorming session with a friend, DemsForDogs came alive.

Cori’s professional background in non-profit management, fundraising and event planning made inception to execution a possibility and she began working immediately. However, the campaign hit a roadblock when it lost its funding at a crucial moment after the concept had been launched. After numerous dogs had hit the streets making presentations asking for donations. After shelter partners were secured. After candidates were promoting the initiative. Momentum was strong within the Democratic community and letting the idea fade away was heartbreaking.

One afternoon, a ‘Top Dog’ lifelong Democrat heard the news and with a strong passion for animals and equally strong belief in the slate of Democratic candidates, announced the start of seed funding for a grassroots model to DemsForDogs. Within minutes, other Democrats pledged donations. In a week, DemsForDogs exceeded its stretch fundraising goal.

With the hurdle cleared, DemsForDogs has gained a community of supporters putting passion into action.
